14 Trends to Try in 2014

It is a new year so you have got to try some new trends right? Push your fashion boundaries this 2014 and try something new. Go where you could have never gone, and then you will be amazed and think “Really, I didn’t know I could pull that off”

That totally happens! Of course Wink n Pout will help you along the way and suggest how one can wear a trend, and if you have a personal question, we take those up too!  You just have to use the Ask a Stylist button in our app. That’s all! So here is an edit of 2014 trends we love! Which one will you pick?

# 1 Pastels head to toe
It feels like the year of pastels with powder blue, pink, peach all ruling the runways and retail spaces. You may have mixed pastels with neutrals earlier, or brighter hues, but this time around become a stunner in head to toe pastels. Check out Roberto Cavalli’s Spring 2014 look.

#2 Striped hair
Ombre hair or dip dye hair is so passé. (But we still love it honestly) The new thing? Stripes. But they feel different from streaking in the way they appear rather geometric. Maybe you do not opt for a crazy color like Ohne Titel or maybe you just try it out temporarily. How you ask? Usw white sheets of paper, spray Bumble and Bumble Spraychalk in lines that are thinner in the front of the head and grow thicker as they reach the back of head.

#3 Nightwear look for day time
Marc Jacobs does this all the time, he wears it to work. Street Style mavericks have one it too in the past. So can you do it too? With a pair of heels, sunglasses, a nice hairdo, a clutch and confidence… you can! Be inspired by the look below by Holly Fulton.

#4 Peplum Detailing

Peplums still rock but it is not the full peplum but its detailing that is catching our fancy this time around. Alexander Wang blew us away with this dress. It is a classic silhouette updated brilliantly. All you wide shouldered girls, this one is for you!

#5 Long cardigan with a Dress
This is not a look that most of us believe we can pull off. If it were a blazer over a dress, it would not have been a problem. But a long cardigan? Well Michael Kors does it. And the trick? Wear the dress length that is perfect for you. More help on that dress lengths here. And yeah please notice the belt and the brooch too!

# 6 Contrast Collars and Cuffs
No they are not just for men. Being a woman in a man’s world, we can get away with wearing a lot of their wardrobe. And when it is in style, why shy away? After all Androgyny is a good thing to embrace at times. Check out this shirt by Alexander Wang.

# 7 The color Radiant Orchid
Though we still haven’t gotten over Emerald green from last year, Radiant Orchid has already taken its place as the color of the year – at least in theory. While there are mixed reactions to the hue, we think it is definitely worth a shot. Most of us at Wink n Pout have never worn this color either but we want to!

#8 Sheer Sleeves Blazers
This one can be termed as clever design by Reed Krakoff and surely an interesting idea for the year. Sometimes it is just too hot for a blazer but we want to wear it anyway. Can this be an alternative? What say?

#9 Sporty Meets Business
How do we dream of wearing our business suit now? Of course with a hoodie and sports shoes, and yes throw in a sexy backpack too! Who taught us? Alexander Wang in his pre-fall collection.

#10 Long Cardigans at Work
This year we will rock a long cardigan button up at work with an interesting shirt. Aren’t blazers done to death? Thank you Jason Wu!

#11 Jeweled open toe wedges
We have been in love with jeweled pumps, smoking slippers, heels et all. But a sturdy looking shoe getting glammed up has surely interested us a lot! Tibi did it!

#12 The Flounced Skirt
They started to rise last year and we have a fond memory of Leandra Medine wearing it. We think it is not man repelling at all, rather feminine and fun. So will you wear it? We love Balmain’s quilted take on it.

#13 The Palazzo Pant
There are a lot of myths surrounding the palazzo pants. Many women feel they will not be able to carry it off. That is not the reality however. Remind us to do a full-fledged post on this one! We want to show you how you can rock this trend, seriously. How gorgeous is this pair by Daks right?

#14 Metallic Oxfords
Yeah, we love the classic oxfords that look like we stole it from our men. We are fond of that but metallic oxfords? We love you Karen Walker! We are back in the holiday spirit!

So that was our hand-picked 14 trends that we recommend you to try this year.
Which one did you fall for? Tell us in comments below!
